What Makes Us Different?
We don’t simply provide a place to live—we walk alongside each individual, helping them discover what true independence looks and feels like. Through consistency, compassion, and support, we show them that someone truly believes in their well-being and their ability to move forward.
We remove the obstacles and break down the barriers to housing, giving individuals returning to the community from incarceration a genuine opportunity to rebuild their lives and succeed.
By empowering individuals, encouraging their strengths, and supporting them as they work toward their goals, we help create pathways to stability, independence, and lasting success—while reducing homelessness and recidivism.
Housing is the Solution to Homelessness
The vision that became the foundation for Beyond the Walls Initiative
While leading reentry housing programs, I created the Beyond the Walls Program to provide justice-involved individuals with more than just housing. The program was built on a simple belief: lasting reentry requires stable housing, meaningful support, and someone willing to walk beside people as they rebuild their lives. As the program grew, so did the vision and I recognized the need for something bigger—an organization that could develop multiple reentry housing programs, build community partnerships, expand supportive services, and create innovative solutions.
That vision became Beyond the Walls Initiative, an independent nonprofit dedicated to reducing homelessness and recidivism. Today, BTWI will serve as the umbrella for a growing network of reentry housing programs, allowing us to expand our reach, strengthen collaborations, and create more opportunities for individuals returning home.
